I attended a fur trapping camp recently. One of the instructors said something that really stuck with me.
"I trap every day. It is something I just have to do. I can't explain it, I just need to do it."
To some, this may sound crazy. To me, it makes perfect sense. Hunting and fishing have always been a large part of my life. It was something we did as a family. It brought us closer. Today, it is bringing my wife and me closer together. It is something that has been a constant in my life.
Being outdoors has taught me responsibility, a love of nature, and overall to just be a good person. I am so thankful my father always pushed me to be outside and I hope to do the same for my son. It has helped me understand what it means when someone says, "I can't explain it, I just need to do it."
We have a limited time on this earth and rather than fight about who is right and who is wrong, we need to join together and protect what we have been given so that future generations will have the opportunity to know what it means to be an outdoorsman.
